Leaders Solidify a Plan Forward

What was your last sales or managers meeting like? After all, you just came off of a bad month, in fact, it was two bad months. It’s a shame because you had been on a good run of doing well for the last 9 months in a row and were ahead of budget on all financial KPI’s. Your visions of that big bonus had vanquished as the gains from the previous months got wiped out during these last two months. So, back to that meeting.

Two tracks

There are a couple of ways that the meeting could have gone. You are responsible for the results of the business and you needed to make it clear that that latest results are not satisfactory. Looking at it from perhaps, two extremes, the easy way is to point out everyone’s failures, call them bums, and make it clear they’ll walk the plank should these results continue. The harder way is to point both the areas of failure and of success, solicit ideas for improvement and solidify the revised plan for the future.

No one said this would be easy

Making the time to work on the business can be difficult, but necessary. Those that don’t allow for this critical thinking tend to take the easier way out when things go sour as opposed to those who gather the team to rally behind new ideas, a refreshed sense of optimism, and a plan forward. Leaders lead.

What did your last meeting look like? Don’t leave it to chance, don’t leave the coaching to the players. Stay positive, stay focused and lead your team to be the best that they can be.
